Itinerary for the 3 day excursion from Fes to Merzouga Desert
- Day 1: Fes – Medilt - Azrou - Ziz Valley – Merzouga (Camel Ride & Night In Desert)
As we traverse the road from Fes, we ascend through the majestic Middle Atlas Mountains, encountering the famed cedar forests, renowned for their historical and cultural significance. These ancient cedars have been esteemed since Phoenician and Roman times for their exceptional qualities in woodworking, aromatic essences, and the construction of venerable maritime vessels.
Our route meanders through Ifrane, often dubbed the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine charm, and Azrou, a quintessential Berber village steeped in traditional Zayan culture, nestled in the heart of the Middle Atlas.
Continuing our journey, we cross the breathtaking Ziz Valley, celebrated for its dramatic gorges, before arriving at Erfoud, a town that serves as the gateway to the Oriental Sahara. From Erfoud, we embark on a rugged desert trail leading to Merzouga. Upon arrival, we are greeted with the opportunity to experience a camel ride at sunset, followed by an overnight stay in a luxurious Berber tent nestled among the serene dunes. Here, a sumptuous dinner and an evening spent in our opulent desert camp await, promising an unforgettable sojourn under the stars.
- Day 2: MERZOUGA - RISSANI- TODRA GORGES - DADES VALLEY.
If we rise early enough, we will be rewarded with a breathtaking sunrise over the dunes, where the shifting hues and shadows of the desert create an enchanting spectacle. After savoring a delightful breakfast, we will embark on a camel ride—lasting a few hours or as brief as you desire—before heading to Tinghir for a leisurely lunch.
Our route will take us through Tinejdad and the picturesque Todra Valley, renowned for its dramatic landscapes and lush oases. This captivating area offers numerous opportunities for serene walks, whether meandering alongside the river through verdant gardens or strolling along the road that skirts the opposite side of the gorge.
In the afternoon, we will continue our exploration, traveling to the majestic Dades Valley. Here, we will navigate the impressive Dades Gorges before concluding our day with a comfortable overnight stay at a charming local hotel, where we can reflect on the day’s wonders.
- Day 3: DADES - AIT BEN HADDOU - OUARZAZATE - TICHKA PASS - MARRAKECH
Our journey will lead us to Ouarzazate, where we will explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a stunning exemplar of traditional Moroccan earthen architecture. Following a delightful lunch, we will immerse ourselves in the world of cinema with a visit to the renowned Atlas Film Studios.
Subsequently, we will traverse the majestic Atlas Mountains via the Tizi ‘n Tichka pass, pausing at various vantage points to capture the breathtaking panoramic beauty of the landscape.
